Is NBA Really Becoming Duo Era?
Recently, I see many articles about best NBA duos 2020 season, and some of them rank #30 to #1 which means ranking every single team. Those articles are dun to read and pretty interesting, but I’ve got a question “Are they really duo? or just 2 best players in team?”
One article ranked Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley for #10. It is not bad, but where is Rudy Gobert? Isn’t he helping Jazz to go to playoff? Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum. Yes, they are great players, especially Kemba is All-star and Tatum is future All-star, but what about former All-star Gordon Hayward and Al Horford? Yes, I know those are not the duos that became viral. In top 5 there always be Curry and Klay. Yes, they are the best shooter duo in the history, but still, where is Draymond? Just because his stats decreased, he is not good to be called big 3?
There are some teams that has DUOS such as Trail Blazers, Nuggets, and Clippers. Those teams have good players, but their level and duo’s level are totally different. Kawhi and PG13 are much better than other players in the team. In this case, even though they are new to the team, Clippers are Kawhi and PG13’s team.
This duo era started when Anthony Davis was traded to Lakers and also when Kawhi and PG13 teamed up. Yes, it really look that there are many good duos, but it seems like it is just making a trend. It is fun to see the super stars play together, especially Kawhi and PG13 duo is compared to MJ and Pippen duo. But we should not ignore the fact that tole players have huge part of winning and supporting the scorers in the team.
For example, 2014 final, Spurs won over Miami, but this was not accomplished without rising star Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Duncan, Parker and Ginobili were the big 3 in Spurs, but Kawhi and Green played huge role in defeating Miami Lebron Heat. Also, Miami was not able to win over Spurs previous year without declining star Ray Allen. Ray Allen was not scorer anymore but without his clutch 3P Spurs won in Game 6.
As we all fan of NBA, we love to see super stars play in 1 team, but we are not supposed to disrespect other players in the team.
What is your opinion about this duo era? Do you think it is just for making it to be trendy or is it really duo era? Please comment your opinion!!
